‘It’s all about the Welcome Drinks!’
I met my lovely group of 12 jet setters at the International terminal. Flying with Garuda Airline we were fortunate enough to be seated together for the 6 hours trip. There is always an exception though, Brett, who had his own agenda – lucky fellow had 2 seats to himself a few rows behind us.
As he did not board the flight with us I was left wondering if he made it on the plane at all! Having decided I could only worry about this upon landing, I promptly put on the eye patch provided by Garuda and fell asleep.
Garuda have quite a selection of movies to choose from. If you weren’t fast asleep like myself you would find that the journey was only 2 movies away… unless you are unlucky like Jordan who missed out on the last 5 mins of the Hunger Games. Despite the fact I was sitting in one of the middle seats in a row of 4, I was really quite comfortable as the seats were quite spacious and provided significant leg room.
The meals were as good as airplane food goes but we were surprised with a Mango Weiss Bar – a refreshing snack just before landing and thoroughly enjoyed by all! The flight attendants were friendly and accommodating with a sense of humour.
Upon arrival to Denpasar Airport, once everyone located their bags, we were met by Destination Asia at the arrival gate with bottles of cold water. Our Destination Asia guide, provided interesting commentary about Bali during the drive to the hotel and was very helpful in reconfirming our future transfer requirements.
It had been a very early morning and long day travelling so we were relieved to finally arrive at the Sanur Paradise Plaza Hotel. The friendly staff greeted us with the first of many welcome drinks that we were to consume over the next 6 days! Our rooms were ready and we checked in quite quickly after arrival.
Sanur Paradise Plaza Hotel: I found the hotel rooms were very fresh and bright with lots of space.
The facilities included are Gym, Day Spa, Pool, 2 restaurants, shuttle service and free WI-FI.
After we had all had a chance to freshen up, we were taken to the Beach Club for our second welcome drink. As the Sanur Paradise Plaza and Suites are not on the beach front, the accommodations provide a private beach area or their guests to utilise during their stay. Lounge chairs are available for use and there is a shuttle service that stops between the two hotels, the beach and even in town for those who want to explore.
* The following are other hotels reviews that we visited while staying in Sanur:
Sanur Paradise Plaza Suites: In contrast with the Sanur Paradise Plaza Hotel, Sanur Paradise Plaza Suites offer larger 2 and 3 bedroom apartments with balcony’s available on request. This resort features Camp Splash which includes a supervised children’s play area and pool complete with a small water slide. Facilities included are Gym, Kid’s Club, Pool (including a children’s pool), restaurant, shuttle service and free WI-FI.
Regent Bali Sanur: This property is very stylish and ooze’s 5* luxury – clean and polished. The rooms are quite large and luxurious, all with balcony’s that feel like an extension of the room. No matter if you have ocean or garden view, the grounds are stunning and include a magnificent water feature in the centre of the property under which the day spa is located! Facilities include Bar, Day Spa, Gym, Kid’s Club, Pool, 2 Restaurants, Free WIFI, beachfront!
Kamuela Villas & Suites: The property and staff are very welcoming. It is smaller but feels like it’s closer to the centre of action – shops, restaurants, bars etc., whilst still able to keep a quiet, tranquil vibe. This is also a MyTime property and we did see the special check in counter for our MyTime guests.
Facilities included are Bar, Day Spa, Pool and Restaurant.
Segara Village Hotel: * This was one of our favourites!
Although Segara is quite spread out, the property manages to feel warm, friendly and inclusive as it’s setting resembles a Balinese Village. It is a beachside property, although most guests spend their time by the pools. The rooms are quite modern and spacious with Balinese decor. Cocktails and canapés at the Byrd Bar for sundown is a must!
Facilities included are 2 bars (including 1 swim up), Day Spa, 3 pools, 2 restaurants, tennis court.
*A point to note about hotels in Sanur, all vehicles are scanned by security before they are allowed to enter the property. An aftermath of the Bali bombing a few years ago, but certainly kept nerves at ease knowing you were safe.
Next stop … Lombok & The Gili Islands
